  Optional Ideas to Puppy Proof Your Home  

Tidy UP

Bring Puppy home to a clean and fresh place. Be sure to pick up all items on the floor and vacuum.

Close Toilet Lids

You don't want your puppy to think it's acceptable to drink from the toilet or accidentally fall in.

Secure Belongings & Eliminate Chewing Tempations

Remove any tempting items that pups may chew for  fun or that may create a choking hazard. 

Set Up a Quiet Space for your Pup

Allow them to have a safe & secure place to rest. Make it comfy & enjoyable. Crates should be treated like havens, not punishment areas

Lock Away Medication & Harmful Substances

Avoid anything that could be toxic to your puppy such as prescriptions, batteries, etc.

Remove Poisonous Plants

Some plants are toxic to dogs(&cats). Avoid Azaleas, Rhododendrons, Tulips, Daffodils, Sago Palms. At least keep them out of reach

Hide Exposed Wires

Chewing on cords could be extremely harmful. Hide cords, use cord covers, taste deterrents. 

Heat Sources

Protect your dog from any heat sources such as, electric heaters, fireplace

Put Padding on Sharp Edges

If you have sharp edges on coffee tables or other objects cover them with rubber guards to protect your puppy where he plays

Secure Trash Cans

These can present choking hazards or toxic items along with overeating and messes on the floor

Pools

While many dogs are great swimmers, it's best to have a fence around any pools so unattended pets don't accidentally fall in. 

Remove Sharp Objects

Keep sharp objects out of reach like knives, scissors, razor blades
